Google’s Gemini can now do multi-step jobs across Workspace

What’s new

Gemini in Workspace used to help mostly inside the app you had open. Now you can ask it from Gmail, Docs, Drive, Chat or Slides for something that spans several apps, and it carries out the steps.

It can create a Doc, Sheet or Slides deck and save it to Drive, and summarise a large folder or a long email thread into a report that shows its sources. It can also draft an email from meeting notes or a document, find a time and book a meeting, sort out calendar clashes, and add reminders to Google Tasks.

Google announced it on 9 September 2026. The rollout began on 2 September and can take up to 15 days to reach each account.

Who can use it

  • Google Workspace Business Standard and Business Plus, and Enterprise Standard and Plus. Business Starter is not listed.
  • Frontline Plus gets the scheduling features only.
  • Included in those plans, with Google’s usage limits for advanced AI features.
  • English only at launch, with more languages planned.

Before you rely on it

  • Before Gemini sends an email or books a meeting, it shows a preview for you to check, change or confirm. Read it properly rather than clicking through.
  • A summary is only as good as the files behind it. Check the sources it links to before relying on it for a client.
  • Advanced AI features have usage limits, so heavy users may reach them.
  • Your plan matters: Business Starter is not listed, and Frontline Plus gets scheduling only.

Our view: One of the easiest wins for businesses already on Business Standard or Plus: no new software, and the confirmation step keeps a person in charge of anything that goes out. Start with meeting follow-ups and scheduling, which most teams do every day.
