AI news

AI can now make your branded explainer videos in days, not weeks

Google, Canva and others

What’s new

Google’s Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash video model, released on 27 August, makes clips that can be extended to 40 seconds and upscaled to 4K, at about US$0.10 a second through the Gemini API. Google Vids, an AI video creator and editor, is included in every Google Workspace business plan, and Canva’s plans include brand kits alongside its AI video tools.

Brand kits, reference images and templates keep your logo, colours and fonts consistent, so the work shifts from production to writing the script, choosing shots and checking. People still matter: a usable shot can take several attempts, and generated on-screen text is unreliable, so logos, prices and wording are best added in the edit.

The tools change fast. OpenAI shut down its Sora video models on 24 September 2026, so we build on tools that can be swapped rather than any single model. The explainer videos on our own blog and News pages were made this way: scripted from our posts, built in our brand templates with AI narration and subtitles, and checked by a person before publishing.

Who can use it

  • Google Vids is included in Google Workspace business plans, from A$9.90 per user a month.
  • Canva Pro is A$165 a year and includes five brand kits and a monthly allowance of AI tools, including video clips.
  • Our estimate for a 60-second branded explainer: about A$2,500–6,500 for the first one produced by L&V, and about A$400–1,300 for later ones made in-house once templates are set up and staff are trained.
  • Use paid business plans for marketing videos: some free plans don’t allow commercial use.

How it fits your current systems

  • Works with what you already have: your logo, colours, fonts, footage and product photos, in tools like Google Vids or Canva that many businesses already pay for.
  • L&V can set up your brand kit and video templates, then either produce the videos for you or train your team to make them.
  • Every video keeps a person in charge of the script and a review before it is published.

Short product explainer clips built from your existing product photos and brand kit, with prices and claims added and checked by a person in the edit.

Bookkeeping practices

A series of one-minute explainers on the deadlines and processes clients ask about most, presented by an AI avatar of a team member who has given written consent.

Commercial training providers

A course-preview video for each program, made from the course outline in your branding, so every new course gets a video without a production budget.

Before you rely on it

  • Fully AI-generated footage may not be protected by copyright in Australia, which requires a human author. Your own script, footage and editing help; ask a lawyer if owning the video matters.
  • Get written consent before making an avatar or voice clone of anyone, including staff, and agree what happens if they leave.
  • Don’t use AI to show customers, testimonials or results that aren’t real: misleading ads and fake reviews are illegal under Australian Consumer Law.
  • Be open about AI. YouTube, Meta and TikTok require labels on realistic AI content, and in a YouGov survey 86% of Australians said brands should disclose mainly AI-made ads, while 45% would trust such a brand less.
  • Finance, health and property ads have extra rules, and music still needs a licence for commercial use.

Our view: For explainers, product clips and training videos, AI now delivers on-brand results in days, and once templates are set up, at a fraction of studio cost. Keep people writing the script, choosing the shots and signing off; keep studios for bespoke animation and filmed campaigns; and never let AI stand in for real customers or results.
